About

Having spent her childhood and university years in Beirut, Mira’s work builds on this experience and her nurturing relationship with the city. Inspired by its religious, political and geographical diversity, her paintings juxtapose Beirut’s cultural vibrancy and the impact of political instability. A great body of her work is made up of staple seascapes with raging waves that crash into the prominent facade of the Holiday Inn. A victim to the fires during the 1975 Lebanese civil war, it mounts over the turmoiled waters as a symbol of endurance and resistance to many storms witnessed and experienced by Lebanon ever since.

Having presented these works a year ago, Mira sold out her first solo show on the very opening night and had attracted a great media attention with the representation of the old hotel. Her recent work Inside Out further builds on this subject by also encapsulating Mira’s own thoughts, reflections and dreams. Standing out for her unique perception of the city and its socio-political landscape, Mira El Khalil is an inspiring Lebanese talent to look out for and to collect.
