EN PLEIN AIR

In Spring 2022, MADE IN BED proudly announced En Plein Air – a new section to appreciate artworks in the open air.

Change is a new constant, and we have much to learn from nature and its gifted dynamism and harmony through the seasons. Rooted in Romanticism, fundamental to Impressionism, and essential to the development of Naturalism, En Plein Air is a French term meaning “in the open air,” pioneered by British painter John Constable c. 1813.

As the world continues to reopen and we meander across its natural landscapes and city streets rain or shine once again, we are unhindered by the traditional confines of the studio and the white cube. Originally associated with painting outdoors, we aim to explore the plein air genre through a fresh, contemporary lens in the hopes of redefining the term to include land art and sculpture.
