MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest Features Co-Editor, Ashley McCuller!

Ashley McCuller is a Texas-born, London-based MA Fine & Decorative Art & Design student at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. She recently graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a BFA in Sculpture & Post-Studio Practice and minor in Art History.

In Ashley’s sculpture practice, scale plays a crucial role, with pieces often larger than herself to emphasise the physicality of both the labor-intensive processes and the concepts behind the work. She is fascinated by transforming unconventional materials, such as bentwood and metal wire, into three-dimensional structures. Using repetition and geometric shapes, she creates a language through objects reflecting habits, inheritance, and an abstracted record of her own life story.

During her undergraduate years, Ashley worked as a gallery assistant for a non-profit gallery and membership organisation in North Boulder and co-founded the artist collective twosevensix, focused on collaborative exhibitions, publication, and critique among emerging artists. She is passionate about using existing artworks as a medium to explore and create narratives about artistic practices and material biographies across historical periods. She is establishing her career in handling and presenting objects while embracing an interactive and interdisciplinary approach to engaging with art.

Outside the studio and classroom, Ashley is happiest when skiing or taking long walks with a comedy podcast playing. As a self-proclaimed foodie, she will try anything once and is currently on the hunt for London’s best dirty chai by morning and negroni by night.
