MADE IN BED proudly introduces our newest En Plein Air Editor, Sophie Harris!

Sophie has always had a passion for art. She practised fine art at A-Level, graduated from the University of Exeter with a BA in Art History and Visual Culture last year, and is now pursuing her MA in Art Business at Sotheby’s Institute of Art. Alongside her studies, she works as a Gallery Assistant at Koopman Rare Art, a dealership specialising in antique silver, vintage jewellery, and objets de vertu. In addition to her interest in the decorative arts, Sophie is particularly engaged with how contemporary art foregrounds underrepresented voices within evolving cultural landscapes. This focus was reflected in her BA dissertation on the rotation of ephemeral sculptures on ‘The Fourth Plinth’ in Trafalgar Square—a project which first sparked her fascination with En Plein Air practice.

Whenever possible, Sophie enjoys travelling to broaden her perspectives on diverse cultures within the global art scene. She believes that En Plein Air practice offers artists a unique opportunity to challenge traditional artistic conventions and spark meaningful discussions around inclusivity in public art. As Editor of the En Plein Air column at MADE IN BED, she spotlights contemporary artists shaping the future of outdoor art and sculpture, drawing attention to narratives that are often overlooked in the public sphere.
